... table, kitchen & home! Works that are to be used in & illuminate the endless silly or serious cycles of life that surround & consume us every day!
Clay working, like farming, is a life style almost never free from the process of clay's constant change. Front Ave Pottery carries on the tradition of working raw clay into quality, functional stoneware. Wheel thrown, altered or hand built stoneware is reduction fired in the studio's 40 cubic foot gas kiln, giving the glazes their warm coloring. Studio formulated & prepared food safe glazes are dipped, brushed, slip trailed or air brushed in playful, decorative motifs often repeated in series or sets.
The pottery's decorative imagery expresses an ongoing fascination with the cycles of life that surround us every day. References from nature illustrate some very basic elements of our lives that move with us through our lives regardless of our current destination!
Clayworking is first & foremost a learned craft. Skill & technique, accumulated through practice, defines a pot's quality. Whimsical images make the pots all the more fun & unique!
