Title: Sacred Stream 20 x 16

Description: This stream is next to the Taos Pueblo, near Taos New Mexico. The stream is fed by Blue Lake which is sacred to the Red Willow people who live in the pueblos. In order to maintain ties to their ancient culture, the inhabitants have no running water or electricity in their homes. They rely on this stream for their water needs. Blue Lake is very important to the Red Willow people for another reason. In 1906, Blue Lake was unjustly taken from the native people of Taos Pueblo. This land was returned to them by an act of congress, signed by President Nixon, on December 15, 1970.
