Title: Miracles, framed and matted – 2 color Letterpress Print in Silver and Blue (2015), item 128.41
Description: This print was inspired by the miracle of a one-day supply of oil lasting eight days, as described in the Talmud. The flames from a 9-branched Menorah form the word “Miracles.” Appropriate for Hanukkah, this print could also be admired as a message of hope or inspiration, or simply because of its eye-catching design of swirling silver smoke. Letterpress printing is a form of relief printing which uses a printing press. I start by creating pen and ink drawings. I scan the drawings and create raised polymer plates from my digital files. These plates are locked onto the bed of a Vandercook printing press, inked, and transferred onto paper through the application of pressure. I printed this artwork on a Vandercook model 4 at Spudnik Press in Chicago. The artwork is printed in light blue and silver on charcoal gray cardstock (French’s Construction Grout Gray paper). The image is an original design by Don Widmer. This print is number 41 in an edition of 45 and is signed by the artist. A descriptive sheet is included on the back, which describes the printing technique and design. The simple, modern frame is brushed silver. The artwork is floated on top of a black mat. Non-glare and UV resistant museum quality glass highlights the depth of the relief print process. Created in Chicago, Illinois. Artwork Size: 8.5 x 6.25 inches; 21.6 x 15.9 cm. Frame Size: 13.5 x 11.25 inches; 34 x 28.5 cm. Package weight = 3.5 lb.; 1.6 kg.
