Title: Field of Poppies, Matted and Framed – 9 color Letterpress Print on Recycled Paper by Don Widmer (Item no. 183.04)
Description: Field of Poppies was inspired by a visit to the Chicago Botanic Gardens during the summer of 2013, where a vibrant field of poppies shimmered in the afternoon sun. I work from a photograph to create a watercolor painting. I scan and digitally separate the painting into a series of overlapping colors. In this case I used 9 different colors. I create polymer plates from my digital files. These plates are locked onto the bed of a Vandercook press, inked, and transferred onto paper through the application of pressure. Printed at Spudnik Press in Chicago. The paper (Speckletone) is a recycled paper made by the French Paper Co., a family-owned mill in Niles, Michigan. The wooden frame has a slight bevel on the edges. It is brown on the outside edges with the addition of a green wash on the front. The archival green mat is a lighter green. Non-glare and UV resistant museum quality glass highlights the depth of the relief print process. The print is signed and numbered (number 17 in an edition of 50) and comes with a one-page description of the process. Created in Chicago, Illinois. Frame Size: 13.5 (h) x 10.5 (w) inches; 34 x 27 cm. Artwork Size: 9.875 x 4.5 inches (approximate); 25 x 11 cm.
