Title: Castel Sant'Angelo 12 x 9

Description: The Castel Sant’Angelo, also known as Hadrian’s Tomb or Hadrian’s Mausoleum, was commissioned by emperor Hadrian to be a mausoleum for himself and his family. With its proximity to the Vatican, it was later used by popes as a fortress and castle. Leading to the structure is the Ponte Sant’Angelo over the Tiber River. The bridge was commissioned by Hadrian to link his mausoleum with the center of Rome. The angels lining the bridge were added beginning in the 17th century. Today the castle is an enjoyable museum.
