In the heart of every man there lives an explorer, a creator, an artist. The desire to master one’s chosen craft is a quest that lasts a lifetime. In 2013, I began my quest into the world of watercolor painting. With an eager mind and brush in hand, the opportunities a fresh canvas presented seemed endless. Of course, success must be earned through struggle, and I started where every great...
... master once was, as a student. Through techniques I was taught and methods I developed through my own testing, I began to refine my skills. My mistakes and successes have been as numerous as the colors on the palette, and just as each color contributes to the piece, so too has every success and failure contributed to my growth as a painter. As I have continued forth in this endeavor I have found great inspiration in painting the natural landscape. Perhaps this comes from exposure to those of the status of Bob Ross. Or maybe it comes from the majesty of the mountain, the power of the river, the expanse of the canyon, and the tranquility of the forest. Through countless hikes in national parks across the country, I have come to appreciate the beauty in the vastness, and more importantly, the beauty in the details. Now, at seventeen years of age and a junior in high school, I look back at what I have seen and what I have painted, and it makes me realize how much there is left to be discovered. The challenge of watercolor has no limits, and as the creator, nor do I.
